Monthly meetings are usually held on the third Wednesday of the month (with a break in the summer), starting at 5:45 p.m. with refreshments, followed by the guest speaker’s presentation and the competitions. Although competitions are restricted to members only, the meetings are open to all World Bank and IMF staff and families.

Competitions are held in categories defined by format of entries, such as prints, slides, or electronic images, by theme vs. open (no theme), and by class, such as Class B - novice/intermediate, and Class A - advanced IPS members. The guest speaker evaluates, comments on, and selects the winning images. Fifteen percent of the entries are selected in each category, with a first, second, and third prize, and honorable mentions. Monthly winners are later presented at the IPS Annual Exhibit in May.

The meetings are announced regularly on the Fund's and Bank's intranets, through posters in the buildings, and via e-mail distribution to IPS members.
